Welcome to the class blog! Topics we need to figure out:
-How the show is going to work out- who is collaborating, what we are going to do, etc.
-Show title
-We need 1 person who would like to be the bank
-If we want to have committees and if so who whats to be on what committee. Committees we've had in the past:
Reception- group who gets food/drink that we decide upon as a group
Promotion-Creating announcements, notifying the press
Install/ deinstall- Of course everyone will install and deinstall, but this group is in charge of getting materials we might need- i.e. putty to fill in holes etc.
We also need to figure out the date that all work must be framed and ready by. If we decide to frame and hang work.
We also need everyones availability.
I suppose I'll start:
I would like to work on show promotion if we decide to have committees. My availability is as follows:

T: after 7pm
W: after 5pm
TH: after 7pm
F: after 10am

Potential titles (total brainstorm here):
The Pageant of Vision

Eye-Catcher

[Insert Title Here]
this is also pretty fun http://www.mit.edu/~ruchill/lazycurator.submit.html
Say we end up having multiple different pieces, I think it could be really cool if we made each one some kind of destination/attraction as if they were different parts of the event. For example, one you have to enter, another you have to step up on a platform or cross some kind of threshold etc... not obviously referential of the fair, but at the same time giving the sensation of being somewhere like it.
ReplyDeletealso, I've had just one idea for a title:
The Show
And, I have a fair amount of free time this semester so I'm pretty open to working with other people's schedules.
I like that idea, Kai, the destinations of pieces.

Sorry, my schedule sucks.
Does anyone know how to paint signs? Or own a tent/gazebo thingy that we could paint?

Also available any day between the hours of 9:30pm & 9:00am and for bar mitzvahs.
Don't have any title ideas... I don't have any sense of what the show is so, it's hard to title it.
How about "Available for Bar Mitzvahs"
I'll help wherever I can be useful so name it.
On a side note, I hadn't been to Site Santa Fe in a long time and thought the show was great. The Leandro Erlich elevator? Fuck. Lowry and I also stopped by Photo Eye (I think that's what the gallery is called?) and there was a small, but really nice Julie Blackmon show up if anyone is up there for any reason anytime soon or if anyone loves her work and didn't know about it. That's all.
So I have a very specific idea for the show and would like some input. What I would like to do is to make a giant cut out of a twin lens camera and cut out the top lens for people to put their faces behind. This would put our guests in as the photographer. We could make photos of people who come to the opening with a Polaroid land camera, so that we could tack the image on the wall and make a souvenir out of the transfer.
ReplyDeleteGiant photo cut outs are made for a photograph, they are these two-D things that would make no sense in any other context. Also, we live in an age where everyone is a photographer (with camera phones and other photographic technology). I guess it's a look at the nature of photography and the history of photographic technology.
This is a rough idea, is it silly? Thoughts? Anyone want to work with me on something like this? Does this make any sense at all?
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteSorry for the belated post. It seems, once we all have a somewhat cohesive idea on how this showing is going to be executed, I could add more input on ideas for it. For the time being, I like the idea of collaborating with other artists in the class on a piece. I also feel that if some people want to display individual work that is fine also. We just need to figure out how to partition space.
I am pretty busy this semester with school and work, but have a studio off campus and would be willing to collaborate and store stuff until the install.
